"Everything under the sun is in tune"
This last song is the climax that the entire record has been building towards and preparing us for, a parting message to leave us with something to think about, similar to the last song of the previous album I “reviewed”. (Tomorrow Never Knows- Revolver -The Beatles) I’ve been struggling fo weeks to find words for this piece. I have come to realize that I can’t explain what this song is supposed to mean; it’s esoteric in its very nature. Even what it means to me personally is mostly inexplicable. Therefore, I will stop agonizing over this and keep it short and sweet.
The lyrics themselves explain much better than I ever could. This song is about everything. The patchwork quilt of actions, emotions, and experiences that comprise our lives. Everything we can sense using the methods of perception available to us. This is what makes up a life. But there is more to it than just that. Things we can’t express or fully understand.
Most profound lessons must be learned through experience to be understood. That’s the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Experience. You can read a book on skydiving, hear stories from someone who’s done it, and watch videos of it. There is no substitute for the experience of the real thing, nothing even comes close. The feeling of falling through clouds at 120 MPH can’t be articulated. Why bother trying? At best, it will give someone a false impression and can only create inadequate expectations.
You can’t describe the taste of food; there are no words. The only helpful use of words is in using them to compare to something similar. But some things are completely unique. When attempting to describe the intrinsic fundamentals of natural reality, there is nothing to compare to, nothing similar. The word similar by definition means not exactly the same anyway, only the same in particular ways. Even if this is like that, this is not that. They only share characteristics. Words can’t be used to describe a color to someone who was born blind.
All of the lyrics, save for the last two, are just descriptions of different events and feelings we experience. The last two lines of this song are the ones that attempt to convey the message.
“And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon”
Everything happening in the world is ultimately working together towards a predetermined purpose. Perpetuation of itself. Though we often take it for granted, the sun is the most important thing that exists. Its pervasive light can still be completely obscured by our similarly ever-present satellite moving in its path of orbit, even if only for a moment. 🌑 ✨
LYRICS
All that you touch
And all that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
And all that you love
And all that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
And all that you give
And all that you deal
And all that you buy
Beg, borrow or steal
And all you create
And all you destroy
And all that you do
And all that you say
And all that you eat
And everyone you meet
And all that you slight
And everyone you fight
And all that is now
And all that is gone
And all that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."
